About Multiclassing
Hero's Journey strives to offer a flexible play experience for gamers of all stripes. We know everyone has their favorite classes and things they like to do in-game, which is why we devised a unique multiclassing system that allows players to customize what role their character plays in a group.
Hero's Journey begins with a base of nine character classes. Players are allowed to choose from the list twice -- one primary and one secondary. These composite classes are what form a character's "profession", and determine which abilities she will gain access to the quickest.
The nine classes are a mixture of classic fantasy types, and a few new ones unique to the world of Elanthia.
- Warrior
A student of one of the many schools of martial study. Damage dealers who specialize in melee combat.
- Gearknight
The walking tanks of the Gearsmiths. Gearknights specialize in absorbing damage and distracting and drawing the enemy.
- Rogue
Stealthy fighters, masters of shadow-magic and poisons. Handy with mechanical tricks and traps.
- Wizard
The Arcanum's death-dealers. Lords of the arcane elements, time, and space.
- Ranger
Hunters for the Kinnaes who share a special connection with the creatures and magic of Nature.
- Necromancer
Necromancers dabble in the sinister entropic forces of Nature, and control the Broken dead.
- Bard
Master manipulators of the mind, Bards bring fortitude to friends, and despair to enemies.
- Cleric
Servants of the gods of Elanthia with the supreme power to raise the dead. Skilled in fighting the Broken dead.
- Healer
A hero to heroes, the Healers keep everyone in the fight -- no matter the cost.
- Warrior + Cleric = Paladin
- Ranger + Wizard = Druid
- Ranger + Rogue = Sniper/Hunter
- Wizard + Warrior = WarMage
- Cleric + Healer = Pure Healer
- Warrior + Gearknight = Pure Fighter
- Wizard + Necromancer = Pure Wizard
Ultimately, though, whatever the player decides to make, he will have a wide selection of Abilities to choose from and modify (using Wyr) to make the character he always dreamed of.
Titles are tangible rewards granted to players who have met certain milestones during their time in Hero’s Journey. There are titles for classes, factions, and guilds, of course -- but there are also titles to be earned by completing special quests or reaching certain plateaus of gameplay. These titles offer recognition of the character’s accomplishments and afford the player notoriety within the player community.
For Hero’s Journey, it isn’t enough that we provide the expected class titles of Warrior, Bard, Necromancer, and the like. Because of multiclassing, Hero's Journey will offer numerous interesting titles as well. These titles are meant to further distinguish between characters possessing similar skill sets.
Very special trailblazer titles can also be earned by characters throughout their hero’s journey. Leading a group through incredible peril, or slaying an unspeakable abomination may grant a unique title that further solidifies one’s standing in Elanthia. These titles will not be static and will not be offered to “everyone who does this.” Instead, GameMasters will orchestrate select quests or situations in which these titles may be earned. Given the sense of humor that Simutronics’ GameMasters possess, it will not be surprising to find the title of “Knight of the Wolfhound” being handed out simultaneously with “Bringer of the Spoilt Cheese.”
