Imagine a game where everyone is unique, where no two players are exactly the same; something that quite frankly cannot be achieved in today’s standard MMORPG. The worlds we play in are full of cookie cutter builds, typical gear sets, and the same superior items everyone who plays strives to eventually get. If you play or have played any MMO, you’re no doubt aware of the frustration and empty feeling associated with endless hours of treadmill grinding. You’re also well aware of the restrictiveness of selecting a class when you first start and being stuck - stuck with a non-optimal skill build or items/gear that you couldn’t equip because they weren’t for your class or skill set. Ever consider grouping up with other players to succeed in a common task, or to make finding treasure easy? Try to imagine the negative feelings you’ve experienced when another player gets the best loot for no reason other than he’s the only class that can effectively use the item. There are very few truly rewarding experiences in today’s MMO. Perhaps the most horrible experience of all (and it’s present in every game out there) is the dreaded grind: The obnoxiously repetitive act of acquiring a quest, running out into the fray and slaying ‘x’ amount of some beast or villain or fetching this item from this camp in order to succeed.

MMORPG ’s were initially very exciting; after all, they exist to make money through entertaining people. Somewhere along the line, however, all games both upcoming and already available began to run together. One by one they would be released, each one picking up where the last left off in terms of new innovations and development. As time passed and the average gamer moved from one to another, a certain monotony began to set in. The repetitive nature of grinding to level up and improve skills and stats became boring and ever prevalent in the mind of the player. Before long, that gamer began to notice that there really was not much new in terms of content; the new game was just the same as the old one in terms of overall satisfaction. The experience was exactly the same, just out of a different box and with a different name. Somewhere along the line, the MMO industry lost the ability to intrigue and give players a real sense of adventure. Today, however, many gamers are putting their confidence in a company that may very well have the power to change the standards by which MMO’s are judged. One company aims to take the current, boring experience and revolutionize the way we game.
