Hero’s Journey is a game I have been watching now for over a year and so when I had a chance to visit Simutronics at E3 I jumped at the chance.

At the booth, we were treated to the first public demonstration of Hero’s Journey. Like many of the other games I saw, there were great graphics, nice looking spell effects, great combat, etc. all powered by the company’s new HeroEngine.

The game is striving to put RP back into online RPGs. They are focusing on the players character and there will be no two the same. During character creation there are many choices to be made to make each one truly unique. The demonstration also showed us the Wyr where the player’s character, items and abilities can be customized to make them unique. The Wyr will alter spells and can be combined in surprising ways.

The social system in Hero’s Journey is very important to its creators. It supports roleplaying in that the players will have housing, towns, and neighbors that may or may not be friendly. Players will have the chance to get to know each other both as friends and enemies.

Hero’s Journey will launch with nine classes, of which players may choose two to build the foundation of their character’s abilities on. This allows for flexibility in gameplay, and provide the customization without taking away from the unique feel of a fantasy RPG. The nine classes will be Warrior, Gearknight, Rogue, Wizard, Ranger, Necromancer, Bard, Cleric, and Healer.
